Purpose Statements

The development of the Cumberland Virtual Academy will help to:

What opportunities will be available in the Virtual Academy?

The Cumberland Virtual Academy attempts to provide students with a personalized educational

  • ption that offers virtual experiences that are flexible, rigorous, and innovative. Students will have

the opportunity to come together for both educational and social programs. Field trips, guest speakers, socials, tutoring, and much more are all benefits of the Cumberland Virtual Academy.

How do students enroll?

To enroll at the Cumberland Virtual Academy students would complete an application and screening process. All students who are eligible to enroll in Cumberland County Schools may

  • apply. The application window will open on June 15, 2020 and remain open until the 10 day of

school for the traditional calendar. If students would like to return to their residential school they may transfer at the end of the semester.

How would students be recruited?

Families would be solicited from homeschool listing, recent withdrawals to private and charter schools along with current CCS families looking for an alternative option. Eventually this would become a choice option for families and be available in the Choice Process.

What assessments are required?

Cumberland Virtual Academy will be held to the same district and state testing

  • standards. End of Grade, End of Course, ACT and other tests will be held at a centralized

location at the end of each semester or school year depending on grade and level. K-2 students will participate in the state required reading assessments at three intervals.
