Jonah 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.”
Jonah 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.”
Jonah 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” Compare Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
Jonah 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” Paul’s Gospel (Romans 3:21-26 NLT)
21But now God has shown us a way to be made right with
him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long
- ago. 22We are made right with God by placing our faith in
Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.
Jonah 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” Paul’s Gospel (Romans 3:21-26 NLT)
23For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious
- standard. 24Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his
- sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from
the penalty for our sins. 25For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,
Jonah 3 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you.” Paul’s Gospel (Romans 3:21-26 NLT)
26for he was looking ahead and including them in what he
would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
Jonah 3
3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh
according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three days’ walk.
Jonah 3
4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one
day’s walk; and he cried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.”

4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one
day’s walk; and he cried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” Compare (Genesis 19:24-25) Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven,
25 and He overthrew those cities, and all the
valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
but…
That’s not exactly what happens
Jonah 3
5 Then the people of Nineveh believed in God;
and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them. 6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth and sat
- n the ashes.

7 He issued a proclamation and it said, “In
Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.

8 But both man and beast must be covered
with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.
Jonah 3
9 Who knows, God may turn and relent and
withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish.”
Jonah 3
10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned
from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.
This word also means “to turn” or “to change”… which did in fact happen.

4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one
day’s walk; and he cried out and said, “Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” Compare (Exodus 14:5) 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his servants had a change of heart toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”
So What?
We don’t always get second chances, but when we do– take them!
