As w ith seating the aim in selecting appropriate bathing equipment is to -

Indications for use of Swivel Bathers

  • The young person is large enough to require adult bathing

equipment

  • The young person is unsafe transferring in/out of the bath

independently

  • Carer assisting the young person is unable to do so safely

and a manual handling risk has been identified

  • The young person has been assessed with a bath board

and cannot transfer safely into the bath

  • Young person needs additional back support
  • The young person should have adequate hip mobility to

facilitate safe use of the equipment

Contra-indications for use of a Swivel Bather

  • A secure and safe fitting cannot be achieved
  • The young person cannot demonstrate a safe transfer

using the equipment

  • The young person has cognitive problems and may react

inappropriately/unsafely

  • The young person has a medical condition that could put

them at an increases risk when using the equipment.

  • The young person fails to meet the recommended size

and/or weight limit
