JAMAICA SELECTED AS NYC RECIPIENT of DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION INITIATIVE In August 2016, Governor Cuomo announced that Jamaica was selected as the winner of the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative in New York City. Over the next year, a local planning committee, composed of residents and civic leaders, was established in order to guide the community engagement process. Several transformative projects were recommended to provide a holistic approach to the revitalization effort in Downtown Jamaica. The seven projects selected for funding were announced by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in July 2017. The committee identified three primary goals for DRI investment:
