CIRPA main research areas

  • Area 0. Introduction, history, and theories of environmental psychology
  • Area 1. Analysis (and monitoring) of people everyday life-environment relationship and related socio-psychological aspects/processes, such

as: perceptions, attitudes, and uses of living environments, or places (home, neighborhood, city, etc.), place identity, perceived affective qualities of places, residential attachment, perceived residential satisfaction, attitudes and uses of urban environment, etc.

  • Area 2. Perceived residential quality: construction and use of indicators/instruments of perceived urban quality; comparison between “users’

evaluation” and “experts’ evaluation” of urban quality.

  • Area 3. Perceived environmental quality of healthcare places (hospitals, residences for elderly, etc.): construction and use of

instruments/indicators of healthcares’ environmental humanization.

  • Area 4. Environmental cognition and memory, cognitive maps, spatial orientation and wayfinding. Analysis of cognitive and affective

processes in people-environment relationship in a life-span perspective (in particular, longevity).

  • Area 5. Environment, well-being and stress recovery: psychological restorativeness of life environments.
  • Area 6. Analysis (and monitoring) of ecological (or pro-environmental) attitudes and behaviors for sustainable use of natural resources

(water, bio-diversity, air and land/space for mobility, energy sources, etc.) such as: water use and conservation, recycling and disposal of domestic waste, Travel mode choice and use of public transportation for urban mobility, etc.

  • Area 7. Psycho-social processes (perceptions, cognitions, affects, identities, attitudes, intentions, etc.) and behaviours involved in the

institution and the management of natural protected areas or Parks.

  • Area 8. Perceptions, attitudes and behaviors towards nature and green areas in urban and peri-urban areas.
