  3. Task Force Overview Membership Over 35 staff members contributed time this summer ● on the instructional task force. Five official meetings held in July and August. July 6, 13, 20, 27 and August 3 ● 3

  4. Research & Reflection Teachers and administrators reflected on experiences ● with remote learning during the spring semester. ● Parents and teachers were surveyed about the experience. Feedback informed our planning as a team. ● The task force split into prek/elementary and secondary groups to examine research about remote learning. Subgroups shared findings with the full group to guide our work the remaining weeks. 4

IEP, 504, ELL, Gifted Learning specialists and counselors will collaborate ● regularly with general education teachers in order for students to access the general education curriculum with the modifications and accommodations. Learning specialists will use a variety of different ● strategies and online platforms to provide services based on an individual student’s needs.

Special Education Provide special education and related services in the ● IEP through multiple modalities: online learning websites, online instructional materials, paper packets, instructional videos, parent consultation, virtual live sessions, etc. ● Special education staff will collaborate with families to determine what services are needed during Distance Learning via Form G (Distance Learning Plan)

Software shell or template ● ● Houses educational materials ○ Courses, lessons, materials, links, documents, discussions, quizzes Aids in organization and delivery of content ● ● Common systems used by schools and universities include Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Schoology, and Classroom 14

Google Classroom Why Google Classroom? ● We’re a Google School (Google Suite file sharing is seamless) ● Designed with K-12 in mind Easy to use ● Plays well with others (easy integration of other apps) ● ● Offers concise parent summaries ● There’s an app for that—teachers and students ✴ Offers the same learning format for all levels of learners while allowing us to vary the level of the content. 15

Goals for Training Our Teachers To use Google Classroom to set up a training Classroom that: ● Provides ease of access for varying levels of experience ● Models best practices Showcases sound instructional strategies ● Demonstrates exceptional feedback capabilities for ● ○ Communication (announcements and comments) ○ Discussion (responses to questions and to classmates) Grading (points, rubrics, comments, resubmissions) ○ 17

  22. Classroom—The Classwork An Example of an Assignment Here’s an assignment posted for English 1 students. Teachers can attach files (pdf, image, doc, etc.) or link to websites, videos, or other apps, like Quizlet. 22

  23. Classroom—The Grading Grading takes place inside the Google Classroom assignment. Options include: ● Assigning points Creating and using rubrics within Classroom ● Adding comments directly into the student work ● ● Providing overall comments to the graded assignment ● Adding class comments about the completed assignment Returning the graded work to each individual ● 23

Classroom—Google Meet Speaking of Integration Classroom has integrated Google Meet for each “Classroom” ● ● Our Training Classroom has resources for maximizing its use ● FPS has structures in place to hold Google Meets with students Google Meet Guidelines for Students have been established (see ● next slide) 24

Training & Communication Survey results indicated staff wanted more training in tech-related areas Professional development made with staff’s specific ● needs in mind for: Remind ○ SIS 360 ○ Technology resources ○ ● All resources created in a self-paced format so staff with all levels of ability and familiarity can find it useful.

Training & Communication As a result of the survey, resources and training were also sourced for families with their needs in mind for: Remind ● SIS 360 ● Technology Procedures and Support developed: Distribution of chromebooks ● Distribution of WiFi Hotspots if needed ● Google Form for requesting tech support ●

  31. Distance Learning Schedules Each level has a blend of synchronous and ● asynchronous learning activities throughout the school day. Lessons will be provided to maintain continuity. ● Schedule was informed by research and guidance ● about distance learning.

  32. Professional Development Teachers will complete a flexible learning day ● prior to August 20 to achieve a shared understanding of blended and online learning. PD resources have been developed and ● curated to support continuous improvement and self-directed learning.
