Junhong Chen uses in nano- technology to create the next generation of sensors with applications in biosensing as well as sensing in water and gas applications. He has two patents issued through the UWM Research Foundation, and founded NanoAffix Sciences LLC to commercialize his work. The company has received two small business innovative research (SBIR) grants. Naira Campbell studies biomechanics of the spine and hand and applies that expertise; her work has led her to develop tools that are more ergonomic that can lead to reduced injury. Her work was recently licensed by Snap On Incorporated which plans to bring

  • ne of her tools to market. Dr. Campbell also

created the Consortium for Advanced Research in Gas Industries (CARGI) which seeks to improve safety and ergonomics gas industries. Na Jin Seo is working improve rehabilitation of stroke victims including helping stroke victims to regain motor function in their hands using techniques that include video gaming. She and her team created the Thera-Bracelet which uses vibration technology to help in hand rehabilitation. Her collaborators are exploring the launch of a startup company to bring this technology to market. Ramin Pashaie brings expertise in

  • ptics and photonics which he applies

to neuroscience. He has created devices that can be used to optically stimulate nerves in the brain that may someday lead to improved treatments for Parkinson’s disease. Mahsa Ranji’s research interests include bio-instrumentation and non- invasive optical diagnostic techniques. Supporters

  • f her work include the National Institutes of

Health (NIH). Dr Ranji and her team are developing biomedical instruments tat utilize fluorescence and advanced image processing to study the movement of blood through the pulmonary capillaries. Mobile App Development Lab

  • ffers students from UWM’s School
  • f

Information Studies real-world experience in development of mobile applications. The group is pursuing projects with the Medical College of Wisconsin, which is seeking to apply mobile technologies to healthcare.
