Smart Glasses

  • Head-mounted displays have become popular in the

industry

  • Already introduced in 1968 by Ivan Sutherland
  • Rapid development in the field of sensors and

miniaturization -> smart glasses are ready for consumer market

Perils & Open Issues

  • Distraction
  • Patients might not feel addressed or taken seriously by

physicians or nurses.

  • Surveillance
  • Patients do not know if pictures are taken or video material is

recorded.

  • Sensitive data might be transferred to other persons or cloud

storage located outside the medical facility.

  • Usability
  • Battery power and overheating.

Conclusion

  • Despite promising ideas and protoypes for the usage of

smart glasses in health care there are social and technical issues which must not be neglected.

  • Future research should include a full evaluation of

such aspects!
