Status of ICT in Libraries

• Eastern Cape Province has 209 libraries
• 10 are not operational because of various reasons such as vandalism,

burnt during protests, human resource issues and etc.

• 48 are not cabled
• Only 16 with internet supplied by the municipalities
• 193 libraries don’t have internet connectivity

Challenges

Some modular libraries require to be relocated due to various reasons eg safety issues. No electricity in some libraries. Not all libraries have telephone and access. Not all libraries have internet connection

Service Non recurring estimated costs LTE phone with uncapped DATA R4m Network upgrade and WiFi installations and Firewall R10m  Telephones and internet will be leased for two (2) years with estimated value of R4 million a year including installation to all libraries  Networking such as cabling switches and WiFi points with estimated of R10million for all libraries
