– give members of the Health Scrutiny Committee an update on the progress of the Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Change Programme – and; outline what the next crucial steps are, around the Case for Change and what we believe the Committee would want to consider at its July meeting.

A programme of scale and ambition was required to
deliver sustainable health and care services for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Healthier Lancashire is working with local people and
- rganisations to change how social care and health and
wellbeing services are delivered. The scale of the financial challenge facing public services, coupled with local communities that are generally unhealthier and have a shorter than average life expectancy means we need a radically new and different approach to building a healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria. Context and drivers for change

- There are a number of
improvement plans in place to address the local population challenges.
- However, all the organisations
involved in Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria were keen to understand the consistency, interdependencies and gaps across these.

for our population are amongst the worst in the country. We need to improve the physical, emotional health and wellbeing of our people and support them to thrive. Our population deserve better, our workforce deserve better, we deserve better.

In the last few months the focus has been on
establishing the appropriate infrastructure and resources to be able to mobilise the programme.
The critical next step that we will soon be engaging with
you and the public on is what the case for change is going to say.
After that the next step will be to look at the options for
changing social care and health services.
