Designations
The Humber Estuary is internationally important for wildlife and is designated as:
- A Special Area of Conservation (SAC)
- A Special Protection Area (SPA) under the Habitats Regulations
- Internationally important wetland under the Ramsar Convention.
Together these designations form a Humber Estuary European Marine Site which is part of the Natura 2000 network of nature conservation sites designed to protect the most seriously threatened habotats and species. The Humber Management Scheme is a partnership which aims to deliver the sustainable management of the Humber Estuary EMS.
