CURRENT SITUATION For the first training 16 participants had been selected out of the Kasibo and Matetsi villages in Hwange district/ Zimbabwe. In both communities 80% of the population is affected by unemployment and all consequences. Less education and the lack of workplaces causes the abuse of the environment, natural resources and press the unprivileged local population still into poaching.

Drill and sports at the camp

In close cooperation with both communities Okatoie Safaris & Tours pursues the villagers (re‐) integration into social and financial self acting. Sustainable projects, like this one here presented further education training, shall create long lasting jobs and income. Besides that, by employing qualified Game Scouts, conservation and wildlife protection is implemented.

TRAINING WHOLE DAY LIVING

During the training the participants stay at the unused lodge of Matetsi as a training camp (For further on education Okatoie will use its own surroundings). While tracking and walking on the concession the trainees made first experience with poachers. The trainees learn how to handle these situations, how to arrest and how to report to the police. Implement the training under difficult conditions gets the Game Scout used to patrolling on rainy days.

Lots of improvisation made possible to implement the training for a first group of local villagers in November 2009. But still we are in need of basic materials, outfit and tools, like T‐Shirts, Caps, Shoes, so that we can ensure a safe and professional set up for professional and continuous patrolling and scouting in the bush. We hope to get support, which will help to implement our education program, so that self help and sustainable conservation can be guaranteed. THE SITUATION AND OUR REQUEST
