Network Management Oversee all key programmes of work and activity within the relevant service area ensuring projects is delivered on time, on budget and to the agreed standard • Delivery of highway maintenance functions • Act as the single point of contact for the LC • Management responsibility for a team of technical staff covering a wide range of statutory highway functions • To coordinate other area based functions such as traffic management, development management, street works and programme management. St Stre reet et Lig Light hting ing • Currently look after 4000 street lights in the Borough Area • Ongoing Programme of replacement from High Pressure Sodium to LED • Reduced energy costs and better maintenance life • LED Reduces glare and focuses the light directly on the area to be lit.   7. Winter Maintenance • 30 September to 30 April • 38 Dedicated Gritters • £4.1m budget • 28 Weather Stations • 23,000 tonnes of Salt • 4,000 tonnes of Residence Salt Serving the people of Cumbria

Streetworks • Carry out duties associated with the monitoring of highways work on the public network and all relevant activities undertaken on the highway by external parties • Undertake duties set down within the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, the – Section 184 – Section 171 – Section 169/172 – Section 139 Serving the people of Cumbria

Development Management • Responsible for responding to planning enquiries and planning applications. • Evaluating and assessing applications and enquires which impact on the County’s highways and transport network, provide formal response on behalf of the Highway Authority and negotiate appropriate mitigating measures, such as financial contributions or infrastructure improvements, as part of the planning process. • Link with local officers explore and ensure planning gain Serving the people of Cumbria

Countryside Access • There are over 7400km of Public Rights of Way within Cumbria made up of Public Footpaths, Public Bridleways and Byways Open to All Traffic. • Ensure that all Public Rights of Way remain in a safe and usable condition • Work with partners such as Natrual England e.g Coastal Path • Regular update provided at Highways Working Group Serving the people of Cumbria
