4-Year Plan

 The “4-year plan” is created during a student’s 8th grade

  • year. With help from the 8th grade counselor, students will

consider the different diploma options offered and generate a course selection plan for their high school years.

 The plan is to be considered a draft or a general guideline.  At this time during the 8th grade year, a student’s 4-year plan

does not have to be accurate or complete.

 The plan is updated

every year with the grade level counselor.

4-Year Plan

 The goal of the 4-year plan is to have students think

about the courses that they want to have completed by the time they are a senior.

 Neither the JH nor HS uses the 4-year plan to select a

student’s courses from year to year.

 Each spring, students will receive a course selection

sheet to select the specific courses for the next school year.

Creating a 4 Year Plan is like planning a vacation. You decide:

Where you want to go How you want to get

there

How long you will stay What you will do while

you are there

Where you will eat

slide-5
SLIDE 5

In the 4 Year Plan, you decide:

A potential career path (where

you want to go)

Potential courses you will take

for your 4 years in high school (how you want to get there)

Potential post high school plans

(college, trade school, career…) (what you will do when you are there)

The plan will be

reviewed/revised each year.

It does not lock you into any

decisions or courses. It is just a plan.

slide-6
SLIDE 6

4 Year Plan vs. Couse Selection

The plan is a POTENTIAL

path of courses you think you want to take in high school.

You can change your plan

as you make decisions about your future.

This plan is NOT what the

school uses to enter course requests.

It is just a plan.  Course selection is where

you request the courses you want to take for the next school year.

 There is a deadline for

changing your selections.

 This IS what the school

uses to enter course requests.

 It is a commitment to take

these courses.

4 Year Plan vs. Couse Selection

Like PLANNING a trip… Like PURCHASING the tickets and hotel stays for a trip…

Diploma Options

 There are three diploma options :

 Advanced with Honors diploma  Advanced diploma  Standard diploma

 There is no indication on a student’s transcript as to

which diploma the student has earned.

 Colleges receive a high school transcript that lists all

courses taken, with 1st semester and 2nd semester grades earned in those courses.

 The transcript also reports grade point average (GPA).

Additional Diploma Information

 Both semester averages and credit for Algebra I,

Level I of a foreign language, and/or Career Preparedness taken in the 8th grade will appear on the student’s high school transcript. These courses will count toward the credits required for graduation and will be used in computing GPA.

 PE LIFE : In 10th grade, students must participate in

either the PE Life course or a school athletic team, marching band, or performing choir in order to fulfill this required credit.

slide-22
SLIDE 22

Additional Diploma Information

 Students may take courses at any level in order to

receive any of the 3 diplomas. Students do not have to take any advanced classes or AP classes to receive the Advanced Diploma or Advanced Diploma with Honors.

 Most students will graduate with more than the

required credits. This allows them to take some additional electives or courses.
