Where do I go to apply for awards?

Entrance awards can be found on the “Admissions” tab in your myCambrian account. You can apply for these prior to coming to Cambrian. All other awards open for application in early August and can be found on the “Student” tab in your myCambrian account.

Is it hard to apply for awards?

No, it’s easy! We encourage all students to apply because many awards go unclaimed. Cambrian awards more than 250 unique bursaries each year with a combined value of more than $1,000,000.

Do I have to wait to be in class at Cambrian in order to apply?

  • No. Once you have been accepted to Cambrian College,

you can apply for entrance bursaries through your myCambrian account.

Do I have to be on OSAP in order to recieve financial need?

  • No. As long as you can demonstrate that your school and living

expenses are greater than the resources you have available for your studies, you will be eligible for fjnancial need bursaries.

  • Yes. Entrance awards can be found in your myCambrian

Entrance awards are:

Available as early as March Bursaries that often require a short essay Range in value between $500 to $1000 For all students, but some are limited to students in a specifjc program or those who are single parents

If you are selected to recieve an entrance award, you will be notified before you start your studies at Cambrian. Often times recipients use entrance awards to help with their tuition deposit.

Joyce Foundation Access Bursary

If you are 20 years of age or younger, you could receive a $,000 bursary prior to the start of your classes that is renewable for up to three years.

  • Yes. There are awards based on different criteria.

Do poor essay writing skills impact my chance at receiving an award?

  • No. When an award has an essay as a requirement, the selection

committee isn’t necessarily looking for proper sentence structure or grammatical defjciencies. They are instead looking for you to write your essay based on the topic requested, from your point of view or

  • perspective. Some even specify point form.

What is the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)?

OSAP is a fjnancial aid program provided by the government (federal and provincial) that helps students to pay for college. OSAP is set up to pay any outstanding tuition fjrst, the remaining amount is given to you.

There are two difgerent types of funding:

Grants (money you don’t have to pay back) Loans (money you need to repay)

What do I need to do before applying to OSAP?

Before applying for OSAP, please have the following information available:

Social Insurance Number (SIN) Information about the school and your program Date you last attended high school on a full-time basis Your income tax return or Notice of Assessment Your partner or parents’ SIN and tax information (if applicable)

When is the best time to apply for OSAP?

The best time to apply for OSAP is AS SOON AS POSSIBLE when applications open. When applying, please make sure to indicate that your classes start after August 1, 2020, and that you are only applying for

  • ne academic year.

Be aware that your OSAP assessment can change year to year.

How do I apply for OSAP?

You apply online at osap.ca. You can either apply for full-time or part-time OSAP . You must submit your OSAP application no later than the day before 60 days from the end of your study period (61 days). Note that you will need to apply for OSAP every academic year.

What if I can’t log in because it says I already have an OSAP log in?

If you have previously applied for OSAP , or have received certain scholarships or bursaries, you may already have an OSAP Access Number (OAN). OSAP requires that you use the same OAN every time you apply or log in.

If you do not have your OAN Number, or require your password to be reset, please visit the Enrolment Centre with a piece of valid government issued photo ID (driver’s licence, passport, etc. and your SIN card.

If you do not live in Sudbury, you can go to the closest public educational institution with a Financial Aid offjce that processes OSAP . They can provide assistance.

How can I check the status of my application?

To check your application status, simply log in to your OSAP account to see your fjle and if any updates have been added. This is where you will fjnd out if there are any errors within your application or if the Ministry (OSAP) requires any additional information from you before they can process your loan.

Your status will be updated throughout the assessment and confjrmation of enrolment process. Once your status is listed as ‘enrolment has been confjrmed’, the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) will be given your funding information and they will start to process the payments to your bank account.

What is an ‘Independent Student’ classifjcation?

Independent students will now be defjned as a student who has been out of high school for six years (previously four years). This means that if you have been out of high school less than six years, you will need to report your parents’ income on your OSAP application.

How do I submit documentation that’s needed?

You’ll complete the signature and declaration forms for yourself and your parents/spouse (if applicable). You must submit all form pages. You will then upload your documents to your OSAP application, or bring them in person to the Enrolment Centre.

Additional documents noted on your OSAP application that you have to submit could include:

Marriage licence Birth certifjcates for children Proof of disability Academic progress documents

Your financial aid offjce must receive all documents no later than prior to 40 days from the end of your study period.

Am I allowed to work while on OSAP?

You are allowed to make up to $5,600 per semester while on OSAP. If you are studying for two consecutive semesters (i.e. September to April) you are allowed to make $11,200. Anything over that may affect your funding and must be reported to Financial Aid via the Enrolment Centre.

How or when do I confjrm my enrolment with OSAP?

Confirmation of enrolment is done by the College. Confirmation of enrolment happens once you are registered for your program (picked your timetable.

The only time confjrmation does not happen upon registration is when you register when it fjrst opens. Enrolment confjrmation can start as early as 15 days prior to when classes begin.

Once your enrolment is confirmed, funding is deposited between three to fjve business days after the negotiable date (this is usually one week before classes start.

Typically, you will receive 60% of your entitlement for the fjrst semester and 40% for the second semester. OSAP only comes in two installments. If you are in a three semester program, you will still only get two installments. You will be required to pay your tuition for the third semester with the money already provided by OSAP.

When do I have to start paying OSAP back and how?

You must start repaying your loan six months after there is a break in full-time study (full-time as defjned by OSAP). You will make payments to the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC), not to OSAP .

You can delay repayment if you complete a Continuation of Interest-free Status Application through the OSAP website. Once OSAP authorizes the funding portion, the NSLSC is responsible for the distribution and repayment of student loans. You must go through the NSLSC for access to your loan and loan information.

How do I access my NSLSC account?

You will need your Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement (MSFAA) number to access your NSLSC Account. The MSFAA number is found in your OSAP application.
