EU Integrated Maritime Policy

  • The EU Integrated Maritime Policy seeks to provide a more coherent

approach to maritime issues, with increased coordination between different policy areas. It focuses on: – Issues that do not fall under a single sector-based policy e.g. "blue growth" (economic growth based on different maritime sectors). – Issues that require the coordination of different sectors and actors e.g. marine knowledge. Specifically it covers the following cross-cutting policies:

  • Blue growth, Marine data and knowledge, Maritime spatial planning,

Marine Strategy for clean and healthy seas*, Maritime security and surveillance, Sea basin strategies & ocean governance.

The Blue Growth agenda was adopted in the Limassol declaration in 2012 under the Cypriotic presidency

  • The Strategic Agenda agreed by the European Council in June 2014

forms the bedrock of the Trio’s programme.

  • The three Presidencies will be guided by the Agenda’s five priorities: a

Union of jobs, growth and competitiveness; a Union that empowers and protects all its citizens; working towards an Energy Union with a forward-looking climate policy; a Union of freedom, security and justice; and the Union as a strong global actor.

  • For marine and water issues IenM has worked together with Slovakia

and Malta on a “rolling” agenda: Blue Thread.
