  15. PAPER 3: LISTENING COMPREHENSION (EL & FEL ) PSLE Listening Comprehension (MCQ) Duration: 35 – 40 minutes Marks : 20 * Different texts and questions for EL & FEL Students will listen to a recording of a variety of text types followed by several questions based on each of the text. E.g. dialogue, news report, announcement, narrative passage

  16. PAPER 4: Oral Communication (EL & FEL) * Different passage and stimulus for EL & FEL 2 components of Paper 4 Weightage : 15% (EL), 20% (FEL) Reading Aloud 10 marks 1 passage Stimulus-based Conversation 20 marks 1 topic The 2 components are linked by a common broad theme.

  17. PAPER 4 : Oral Communication (EL & FEL)  Students are given 5 minutes to prepare for a passage of about 150 words and a stimulus.  Two examiners will be testing the child, first by listening to the child’s reading, followed by a stimulus - based conversation (which is a theme related to the passage).  Students are required to converse with the examiners based on the stimulus.

  18. P6 English Language Programmes  P6 Flipped Classroom Oral Portal  Newspaper Reading – Straits Times / Little Red Dot  Word Power  NEWS In Action

  19. WHAT PARENTS CAN DO TO HELP

  20. WHAT PARENTS CAN DO TO HELP Provide English Language reading materials at home. E.g. story books, magazines, newspaper articles and other materials. Go to the library with your child regularly to borrow books. Give your child books about their special interests.

  21. WHAT PARENTS CAN DO TO HELP Understanding – English Language learning requires frequent exposure to listening, speaking, reading and writing opportunities and activities  Listen to English news on radio or television  Get them to express their opinions on news, stories or events  Encourage the use of dictionary to improve their vocabulary

  22. WHAT PARENTS CAN DO TO HELP Stimulate child’s interest – show your child that you believe learning English is both enjoyable and useful in your daily life Role models – read with them, write notes and messages to your child Encourage them to speak Good English.

  23. ZHENGHUA PRIMARY SCHOOL Briefing Session for P6 Parents Mathematics

  24. Every student a thinker and a resilient problem solver • To build a strong mathematical foundation in students. • To foster the joy in the learning of Mathematics. • To engage students through various learning experiences. • To develop reasoning and communication skills in students. • To give students opportunities to appreciate and apply mathematics in real life context.

  25. Topics to be covered in P6 Standard (in the stated sequence) • Algebra • Fractions • Percentage • Ratio • Circles • Angles in Geometric Figures • Speed • Volume of Solids and Liquids • Pie Charts • Solid Figures and Nets

  26. Topics to be covered in P6 Foundation (in the stated sequence) • Fractions • Decimals • Percentage • Measurement (Area of Triangle, Area and Perimeter of Composite Figures and Volume of Cubes and Cuboids) • Geometry (Triangles, Angles in Geometric Figures) • Pie Charts

  27. Standard Mathematics Exam Format Paper Booklet Item Type Number Marks Total Duration of per Marks questions question 1 A Multiple-Choice 10 1 20 1 h 5 2 B Short-Answer 5 1 25 10 2 2 5 2 10 Short-Answer 1 h 30 min Calculators Structured/ allowed 12 45 3,4 or 5 Long-answer Total 47 - 100 2 h 30 min

  28. Foundation Mathematics Exam Format Paper Booklet Item Type Number Marks Total Duration of per Marks questions question 1 A Multiple-Choice 10 1 30 1 h 10 2 B Short-Answer 10 2 20 2 Short-Answer 10 2 20 1 h Calculators Structured 6 3 or 4 20 allowed Total 46 - 90 2 h

  29. Types of Calculators Only calculators that are approved by the Singapore Examinations & Assessment Board (SEAB) will be allowed in the examination . The list of calculators is available on SEAB’s website: http://www.seab.gov.sg

  30. Adherence on the use of Approved Calculators School will check and a sticker will be pasted onto your child’s approved calculator before the examination. All unauthorised calculators will not be allowed into the examination room.

  31. Awarding marks Method marks  Marks given for correct methods  Marks will be given even if answers are wrong Answer marks  Marks given for correct answers  Marks will not be given if method is incorrect

  32. Show ALL workings Important Marks are awarded for correct method and working step even if the final answer is wrong .

  33. Example Edwin had $370 less than George. After Edwin spent $200, the ratio of Edwin’s money to George’s money is 5 : 24. How much money did the two boys have in total at first? $370 E 5 units $200 G 24 units

  34. 1 st step: Establish relationship 24 units – 5 units = 19 units 19 units = $200 +$370 = $570 (Method mark) 2 nd step: Find total units 1 unit = $570 ÷ 19 = $36 29 units = $36 x 29 = $1044 (Method mark) 3 rd step: Add the amount of money that Edwin spent to the amount in the 2 nd step $1044 + $200 = $1244 (Method mark)(No answer mark)

  35. How marks are awarded in this case For a 4 mark long-answer question, a student would still score 3 method marks even though his/her final answer was incorrect. HENCE, it is important that every student shows all workings clearly even if he/she is using the calculator.

  36. Other Marks Deductions wrong mathematical statement 20% = 100 20 + 1.20 = $1.40 “=” sign must be used appropriately in equations!

  37. Other Marks Deductions Area of circle = 16 cm Omission of units or wrong use of units

  38. Mathematics Study Skills Mathematics is learned by DOING problems . Each topic/concept builds on the previous ones. When your child does his/her Mathematics problem or Mathematics homework, advise him/her to write out the complete solution as if they were taking a test or examination.

  39. Mathematics Study Skills Everyday Practice is very important. Your child MUST set aside at least 1 hour to do Mathematics daily. Advise your child to get sufficient sleep the night before the test/exam. They need to be mentally alert.

  40. Mathematics Study Skills Problem Solving Strategies  Draw a Diagram/Picture  Drawing a Model  Observing/Finding A Pattern  Guess and Check  Working Backwards  Using Before and After concepts  Systematic Listing  Algebraic Method
