Basic Exercises

  • Simply listening to music as a group and pointing out

specific parts of the recording to follow and mimic (for example … clapping with the snare or humming with the horn part)

  • Everyone can do the “We Will Rock You” drum beat …

practice that with body percussion (for example … LAP LAP CLAP, LAP LAP CLAP)

  • Using a 4 Count time-keeping pulse … have each child

say their name to the pulse (for example … NOR-MAN can be said can be said on counts 1 & 2 of a 4 Count beat or HIL-A-RY would be on counts 1,2,3)

slide-23
SLIDE 23

Advanced Exercises

  • r in front of the class and conduct a rumble …

getting quiet & loud then ending with a big stop

  • Ask the class to demonstrate simple drum beats

… saying a pattern & then playing it

  • Using a 4 Count time-keeping pulse … have each
