Who is Micro-Air?
- Micro-Air was founded in 1983, and has always manufactured
the digital controls for Marine Air Systems.
- Micro-Air began manufacturing almost all of the digital
controls for the Cruisair brand after Dometic purchased both brands in 2003.
- Today, Micro-Air continues producing almost all of the digital
cabin and chiller controls used by Dometic Marine. We also sell controls to all the top marine HVAC OEMs in the USA.
- We developed many other controls manufactured in volume
for OEMs: air conditioning, refrigeration, ice machines, water makers, safety equipment and even paintball guns.
Then… And now… Allentown, NJ - Established 1983
What Is The EasyStart™?
- EasyStart™ is the only soft starter for single-phase
motors operating at 115-240VAC/50-60Hz, exclusively available from Micro-Air and its dealers.
- With unmatched performance and compressor-
protection features, it allows you to start your air conditioner on a limited power source, such as a generator, inverter or 30-amp hookup, when it
- therwise would not have been possible.
- Popular applications include: RV Rooftop A/Cs, marine
A/Cs and chillers, residential and commercial A/Cs, emergency power contexts, refrigeration equipment, and high-horsepower pump motors.
What Can It Do For You?
- Start your A/C without buying a second or bigger generator or
inverter
- Run 2 air conditioners on a 30-amp cord
- Sleep, with less noise, and cool all through the night
- Run your A/C with more appliances at the same time
- Five minute restart protection
- Protect your A/C’s compressor better than any OEM factory
configuration can
- Extend run time of A/C on battery bank power source
How EasyStart™ Works
- Reduces start current by up to 65-75%
- A one-of-a-kind soft starter for RV rooftop motors
- Gentle four part start ramp
- Five learning starts: It "learns" your A/Cs compressor motor
- EasyStart™ is the only solution that allows an air conditioner to
- perate on a smaller generator, inverter, or limited utility power,
even on a 2000 watt generator.
- Even in ECO mode, it is proven that EasyStart™ can start and run
any RV rooftop A/C on a Honda EU2000i generator
EasyStart Models
EasyStart 364 (3 ton) – RV / Marine
- The 364 is meant for all RV rooftop A/C
units from 5K to 36K BTUs. Most are less than 16K BTUs.
EasyStart 368 (6 ton) – Residential
- The 368 is meant for A/C units from
37K to 72K BTUs – mostly residential. Ask us about this application!
EasyStart™ Compressor Protection
- EasyStart™ continues to monitor and protect the compressor, even after
the start-up sequence is completed.
- Checks for fault conditions and indicates on LEDs the conditions found,
and waiting 5 minutes before attempting another restart:
Stall – If the compressor stops rotating after the startup sequence is completed, perhaps due to low AC voltage (brownout). Overcurrent – If compressor draws more current than the EasyStart™ is rated for. Open Overload – If the Compressor overload protector (Klixon) opens due to compressor overheating or excessive current draw. Wiring – If EasyStart™ wiring becomes disconnected or was improperly installed. Power Interruption – If a very short duration (50ms) power interruption occurs, which is typically enough to stall the compressor. Short-Cycle Prevention – If the thermostat calls to run the compressor again before 5 minutes has expired, allowing the internal refrigerant pressures to equalize. Note that this 5-minute timer is “smart” in that it even keeps track of the elapsed time while power is completely removed from the EasyStart™.
How does it compare to a hard start?
It’s Apples…
- Hard starts don’t solve problems. They “learn” nothing.
- They are a basic start capacitor in series with a temperature resistor without knowledge of your compressor.
- Hard starts actually increase start-up amperage torque and reduce the start-up duration. This hits your
compressor hard with no gentle ramp up and doesn’t always work.
- EasyStart dramatically reduces start-up amperage requirements AND distributes it over a longer period of
time – and gently too – with a very simple four wire installation.
And Oranges!

Five Learning Starts
- Why?
▫ Software and hardware of the EasyStart learns your compressor motor
- n a solid power source to allow quiet, gentle starts every time.
- How?
▫ Connect to utility power and set your thermostat control (A/C or heat) to reach set point or connect to two 2000 watt generators in tandem (not in ECO mode) and do the same.
- When?
▫ The first five starts after installation.
- How Long?
▫ Allow the thermostat to cycle the air conditioner 5x normally or you can manually set the thermostat and cycle by hand. A five minute delay between starts automatically forced by EasyStart protects your compressor and requires this process to take at least 25 minutes.
