  15. A Brief Summary of Our Pathways

  16. Successes of Pathway – Patterns / Poomsae  Patterns are an essential part of martial arts training.  Additional classes are Programmed through the year according to the competition schedule. (Likely Sundays 10am)  In recent years the Patterns competitions in the UK have massively improved (scoring / transparency)  In 2018 we have more qualified judges in our club, we have been to GB team training, attended 3 comps.  2019 Bluewave, Seminars (host GB coaches), Nationals, Internationals.

  17. Successes of Pathway – Patterns / Poomsae  Unfortunately most competitions in the UK are in the Midlands and hence 3 hours+ drive  We have 3 Nationally Qualified judges in the clubs – need more  Aiden Palmer medalled in A-class comps in Europe in Freestyle  We are planning in 2019 to take a team to a Patterns competitions in Basingstoke; Scottish Open; Nationals and Presidents Cup Germany

  18. Successes of Pathway - Sport  The Sports Pathway focuses on Preparing students for Olympic Style Sparring competitions  Specialist coaches run these development classes on Monday, Tuesdays and Saturdays  Martial Arts training is centred around combat, and sparring competition is the ultimate test of nerve and skills

  19. Successes of Pathway - Sport  The club has invested in Electronic Scoring equipment so that our members can get correct competition preparation (2014 – now a little worn out)  This year our small team has competed and medalled around the country British Masters in London, and the National Championship in Sheffield.  2019 Match Days. Several comps mostly in London or Midlands – require overnight accommodation. Nationals Sept 2019 London. Opportunity to progress to GB Cadet and Junior training camps.

  20. Successes of Pathway - Demonstration  A successful season with several events – excellent opportunities to advertise the club to the public and prospective students  New team members joining from core classes  Fantastic opportunity to learn new skills – transferable across pathways and core classes  Retained team members – who are still enjoying it and coming back – eager to keep learning!

  21. Successes of Pathway - Demonstration  Demonstration Team perform at the Littledown Fireworks night for over 10 years. Also performed at School fetes / any events where we can promote the club to large crowds of the target age group  Littledown family festival.  Great confidence building for students – performing in front of strangers!  Training is on Sundays Seasonally Easter to December.  Hanmadang?

  22. A Word about - Fitness  Get a copy of your child’s next grading syllabus so you can see what they need to learn – on our website  Encourage general fitness: jogging, skipping, own body weight exercises, press up's, burpees, sit up's etc. If you are unsure ask an instructor to give you some ideas or variation on the exercise.  All can be done at home inside or outside and key to get their heart rate up.  Stretching - again ask instructors for ideas if you are not sure. This is really important  Holding a kick target if you have one for your child and practice all kicks  Only needs to be a couple of times a week but will make a big difference  Your engagement is a big part is helping progress.

  23. Safeguarding Update In keeping with the British Taekwondo’s (BT) Children and Young People Protection Policy, all instructors attend a Child Protection Course / Safeguarding All Dorset Taekwondo Association instructors and their assistants undergo a Criminal Record Check ( Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service – DBS – previously named Criminal Record Bureau – CRB) check every 2 years

  24. Safeguarding Update All instructors (and assistants) obtain certification which confirms their eligibility to instruct in Taekwondo and their suitability in working with children and vulnerable adults In order to comply with satisfactory safeguarding, please help with the following:  Please drop off and pick up at the correct times  Instructors are not allowed to take children to or from venues  Instructors cannot be connected with students on social media  Tell us – any Issues / Concerns

  25. A Technical Update About Membership  British Taekwondo memberships system has gone online. BT have now stopped accepting paper copies  New an existing members have online access to their details. You apply and renew through “The Hub” but you still (currently) pay the club.  Please keep these details up-to-date (especially the contact numbers)  Detailed instructions and instructional videos on our website.  If stuck please ASK. (preferably via email / ask Marina who manages the memberships)

  26. Our Venues Littledown is Main Venue for the club and the other clubs are Satellites 1. Littledown CORE classes are often oversubscribed and students will 2. benefit from training at other venues that are less busy Green tags and above need to train twice a week to progress through 3. the Grading Syllabus Students should try and train at our other venues and with other DTA 4. coaches in order to maximise their learning potential. Green tags and above should try one of the development pathways in 5. order to fine tune their skills and follow their interests. Core classes are still required in order to progress through the grading syllabus. (Challenge yourselves / Step out of comfort zone)

  27. A Word About Cost We have not increased any of our costs, as a club, since  2014. (In 1986 classes were £3.50 a class) Over 80% of members pay monthly. (Much easier for the  club to administer) On average, as a monthly standing order we are  approximately 40% cheaper than other martial arts clubs in the area Might be some small increase in costs from Easter 2019 

  28. OK – nearly there – Our aims for 2019 1. Increase participation in the Pathways (from Green tag 7 th Kup) 2. Increase the number of members taking part in competition 3. Engage more with parents, as without parent support the children will not be able to succeed 4. Improve Communication 5. Build a base of volunteers to support events and administrative projects within the club 6. Plan and implement specific training plans for those wanting to take part in competition 7. Maintain and Increase membership to account for likely increase costs (Hall hire)

  29. OK – nearly there – Our schedule for 2019 More date / times will be posted on Website and Facebook Last Class 2018 = Thursday 20 th Dec First Class 2019 = Friday 4 th January Sat 12 th January - Sparring Judge Course Sun 13 th January – Match Day (Grange) Sun 24 th March – Grading Test – (4 per year) Sept – National Sparring Championships (Grange)
