Summer Financial Aid

 *

Complete 2019-2020 FAFSA (with 2017 tax info)

 *

Enroll in at Least 6 credit hours (France program)

 *

Enroll in any other summer classes.

Enroll in Fall classes.  *

Once you have enrolled for summer classes, the Student Financial Planning Office will review summer/fall/spring enrollment and send out a financial aid award notice.

 * Follow all instructions including the completion of the Loan

Request Forms (for both summer and fall/spring & online application for fall/spring Grad PLUS)

Federal Direct Student Loans

-After filing a FAFSA, submitting any documents requested by the Office of

Student Financial Planning. (Carnegie Hall) Complete and return the Loan Request Form in order to borrow loans.

***Your award notice will show your financial aid awards for summer, fall, spring as applicable.

I am going to France, what about my aid?

• All deposits for abroad trips must be paid out of

pocket.

• Financial aid will not be available to be credited

to your account until the first day of your

Important Notes

Your summer loan request form (LRF) is for summer aid only. You must also complete a Fall/Spring (LRF) Since the award year maximum (summer, fall, spring) for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is $20,500 any summer borrowing impacts the amount available for fall/spring. Example: If summer Loan requested was $11,700.00, than maximum fall/spring eligibility is $ 8800.00 (or $4400 fall/ $4400.00 spring) Eligibility in Grad PLUS loan does not have an award year maximum

Federal Direct Grad PLUS loan fall/ spring terms

 All Graduate PLUS loans will be completed online through the Federal Student Loan web

site: https://studentloans.gov

 You may be required to complete a Grad PLUS entrance counseling session also.  Follow the instructions to apply for the Grad PLUS loan. This is a credit worthy loan, and

could be denied due to adverse credit. (If you need an endorser, information will be available online to proceed with further documentation)

 Drake Student Financial Planning Office will receive your application electronically and will

contact you if additional information is required. Drake Student Financial Planning Office will originate your application and electronically forward back to Department of Education for final approval.

 Federal Direct (unsubsidized Loan will continue to be completed via paper form. (review

your 2019-20 award packet for appropriate documents.

 After certification of your loans by the Student Financial

Planning Office, your funds will arrive electronically on the first day of classes.

 Funds will first be posted to your billing for the entire summer

expenses, and then any additional funds remaining will be directly deposited to your personal account via electronic transfer by the Student Accounting Office.

 Be prepared: Funds may not show up in your account

immediately, depending on the timing of fund transferred, and the completion of all paperwork.

 It is your responsibility to make sure your paperwork is

completed prior to leaving.
