Compliance date – 1 January 2020 Amendments to reg. 14 of MARPOL Annex VI
- Sulphur limits 0.50% & 0.10% only (no Sulphur limit on HSFO!!!)
- prohibit carriage of fuels with Sulphur content > 0.50% on board
ships which do not have a scrubber (1 March 2020) Mandatory designation of sampling points for “In Use Fuel”
- sampling point(s) fitted & designated for taking representative
samples of the fuel oil “being used” on board the ship
- number & location of designated fuel oil sampling points should
be confirmed by the Administration (Guidelines)
2020 Sulphur Cap
NEW! Mandatory designation of sampling points for “On Board Fuel”
- IMO Guidelines for safe and representative sampling yet to be
developed in 2019

MAPPING INDUSTRY GUIDANCE
Leading the way; making a difference
INTERTANKO 2020 Practical Guide
Provide guidance to INTERTANKO Members on specific regulatory,
- perational, technical and safety elements to be considered in
preparation for compliance with 2020 MARPOL Annex VI regulations. Provides clarifications and guides the reader through a significant number of guidelines issued by IMO and by other stakeholders. Guidance is mainly on compliant fuels but it also addresses the IMO’s contingency measures for scrubber malfunctioning. Q&A sections are included. The guidance is a dynamic document, i.e.
- pen to continuous improvements as new experiences and solutions to
address challenges and unexpected situations are developed. The guidance also provides information on local and regional requirements which may be different from the relevant requirements of MARPOL Annex VI.
