The sustainable development committee of Finland, together with the Ministry of Education, has set as a goal the creation of a sustainable development action programme for all Finnish educational institutions In addition, 15 % of these institutions should acquire an external certification for their work for sustainable development by 2014.

In basic education, sustainable development is included in all levels of curriculum In vocational education, sustainable development is evaluated as a part of vocational competence
