WHAT ARE SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICTS?

Cook SWCD

Mission: To maintain soil and water quality in Cook County by fostering responsible land use and by controlling soil erosion and non-point pollution. The Board will encourage local conservation efforts by providing educational, technical and financial assistance for local land users. Vision: Conserve and protect the soil and water resources

The purpose of SWCDs is to conserve soil, water, and related natural resources on private land. Each SWCD is governed by a five member board of supervisors elected by the citizens of the county. The SWCD board are also responsible for conservation policy development, annual plans, long-range plans and budgets. SWCDs receive funding for conservation from competitive (grants) and non-competitive sources.
