Presenter Prepares

Presenter does a quick write or think about the dilemma he or she will share with the group.

Presenter Shares

Presenter describes the dilemma. He or she may ask for input in one key area. Group members may take notes about what they’re hearing.

Group Asks Clarifying Questions

Group asks the presenter questions with yes/no (or very short) answers. The facilitator ensures only clarifying questions are asked.

Group Reflects

Group silently reflects on the presenter’s dilemma and prepares for discussion. Facilitator may restate presenter’s request for input about a specific aspect of the dilemma.

Group Discusses

Presenter moves chair

  • utside of the circle.

Each group member briefly (1 min.) shares his/her initial thoughts

  • n the dilemma.

Group opens into a less structured discussion: raising probing questions, sharing insights and reflections.

Presenter Reflects

Presenter shares any reactions, insights, or feelings about the protocol and what was said in the group discussion. The presenter doesn’t need to respond to questions that were raised in the group discussion.
