Public Service Co. of Colorado � Original company founded in November 1869 as the Denver Gas Company � PSCo Generating Stations � Fossil Fuel Generating Stations: 9 � Hydroelectric Generating Stations: 6 � Wind Generating Stations: 1 � PSCo serves electricity to about 70 percent of the state’s population, primarily along the major interstate corridors 2

  3. Comanche Station: � Comanche is one of 16 generating stations on the Colorado system � Comanche is a coal-fired, steam-electric power plant operating three units � Comanche burns low-sulfur coal from the Powder River Basin near Gillette, Wyo. 3

Comanche Station (Continued) � Original construction on Comanche unit 1 began in April 1971, and unit 2 began construction in July 1973 � Gross Capacity – 700 Megawatts � 660 Net Megawatts � Unit #1 – 325 megawatts (in service November 1973) � Unit #2 – 335 megawatts (in service December 1975) 4

  5. Comanche Station (Continued): � Comanche 3 broke ground in 2005 commercial operation July 2010 � Gross Capacity – 850 Megawatts � 750 NMW Supercritical unit (Nameplate) � All 3 Units - 1550 GMW � Comanche is the largest power producing plant in Colorado 5

Highlights: � Located one mile from Evraz Rocky Mountain Steel Mill (the single largest customer on the Xcel Energy system in Colorado they are also the only direct customer in the area) � Comanche supplies electricity in part to other companies serving the immediate area such as Black Hills Energy � Remainder of power used to reinforce the company’s and the western U.S. grid 6

  7. Comanche 3 Project Highlights � Supercritical boiler � Generation more than doubled while SO 2 and NO X emissions are significantly reduced � Mercury monitoring, testing and controls for all units � Low-water use cooling technology (Air Cooled Condenser) 7
