BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOLLOWING AGM

THERE’S NO SHORTAGE OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS FOR TRANSPORT…

slide-23
SLIDE 23

BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOLLOWING AGM

… BUT IT’S NOT BEING INVESTED SUSTAINABLY.

Across this Parliament’s Scottish Budgets, expenditure

  • n Roads and Aviation

has increased far more than investment in Public Transport:

36% increase vs 9%

slide-24

SO THERE’S A CLEAR NEED TO
 REINFORCE CAMPAIGNING FOR
 GREATER SUPPORT FOR BUSES
 IN SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT
 POLICY PRIORITIES

  • Good fit with the two National Indicators specifically concerned with

transport: ‘Increase the proportion of journeys to work made by public or active transport’ and ‘Reduce traffjc congestion’.

  • Also a good fit with with the National Transport Strategy, which at §104

states: “RTPs and local authorities should introduce bus lanes and other priority measures which reduce the space available to car users wherever this is possible. Modal shift from car to bus is achieved by use of carrot and stick – carrot in the form of improved bus services in terms of frequency, quality of vehicle and speed and stick in the form of restrictions in car use.”
