Mapping out your Degree

  • Questions to ask yourself
  • Do I want to make any changes to my plan?

(add a minor, double major etc.)

  • How am I preparing for future career goals?
  • Are there other ways I want to be involved

with my major or campus? (i.e. research programs, student organizations, internships)

  • What other responsibilities or obligations

do I have besides work?

  • How soon do I want to finish my degree?
  • Resources to help you plan
  • Your Advisors: Staff & Faculty
  • Planning worksheets: GE

Things to Remember about the Degree Planner

  • The Degree Planner is fluid
  • You can make changes anytime to adapt to

your preferences and needs.

  • The Degree Planner is not

your official audit nor a substitution for Advising

  • Your advisor will make recommendations

based on your academic performance, needs, and goals. They are your best resources for courses and questions regarding your plan.

  • Your Advisor and the 4-Year

Planners are great resources to help build your plan

  • The 4-Year Planners are a great templates for your

Degree Planner

  • Your advisor can make recommendations based on

your degree progress, academic performance, career planning, and personal needs.

  • Update your degree planner every time you

receive new recommendations or ask your advisor for feedback on your plan.

Time to Degree

4 Year Plan 5 Year Plan 120 units divided by 4 years 120 units divided by 5 years = 30 units per year = 24 units per year = 15 units per semester = 12 units per semester Or 12 units per semester + 6 summer units

Time to Degree Considerations

  • Not all students can or should complete

a degree in 4 years

  • Important to consider time to degree vs cost

in your planning

  • Goal is to complete your degree with a

high GPA and in fewest semesters

  • Summer session can help limit unit load
  • Once fully declared- meet with major

advisor to discuss graduation plan

Tutoring Myths

Tutoring is just for students who are struggling in their class. True

  • r False?

Going to tutoring is a substitution for studying. Only the student getting tutoring benefits from this help. If I go for tutoring, I will “ace my class”. I don’t need to prepare for a tutoring session.
