What Is An Archetype?

“Ancient patterns of personality, that are the shared heritage of the human race.” (Vogler and

Montez, 2007)

“The archetypes can be thought of as masks, worn by the characters temporarily as they are needed to advance the story.” (Vogler and Montez, 2007)

These types are worn as masks- changing to show the direction of the story. Removing the rigidity allows each character to develop and learn. Each of the types are facets of the Hero.
