Course Selection Form Instructions
- Place an X next to your eight primary choices. The number of A/B
classes should be an even number and the number of semester classes should be an even number.
- Place an A next to your four alternate choices. Select four semester
courses OR four A/B courses OR two semester and two A/B courses.
- Students should be prepared to receive any eight of the 12 choices

Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID)
A VID is a selective, nationally acclaimed program that seeks to both challenge and support students on their path to attend a four-year college or university What does A VID provide?
- Tutorials and skills development in the A
VID elective course
- Honors-level courses with their cohort
- Field trips (HBCU Fair and NCSU in September)
- Test prep
- College and scholarship advising

How can I be considered for A VID?
- Rising 10th or 11th graders who meet the
following criteria: ○ Weighted GPA of 2.25 or higher ○ First generation college student ○ Desire and motivation to attend a four-year college or university ○ Commit to enroll in rigorous courses ○ Submit an application
The Application
- Must be completed by the student
- Contains four short answer questions and a
- ne paragraph essay
- 2 Teacher Recommendations
○ One must be from an English or Social Studies teacher ○ Second recommendation can be from any teacher.
The completed application with both teacher recommendations is due on March 16 with registration materials.

- Priority for online courses is given to seniors

course registration sheet in order to be considered.
Early Release
Early Release
- No 4th Period class
- Must exit the building and leave campus by the start of 4th period
- Requirements
○ A submitted (and approved) application ○ Must be a senior
- Early Release privileges can be revoked if progress toward graduation
status changes
Dual Credit Allowances for Career & College Promise
- An opportunity for students to attend college classes while
enrolled at Jordan High School
- Earn college and in most cases high school credit
- Juniors and Seniors are eligible to participate
- Students new to Durham Tech Dual Enrollment must attend an
information session (Next session March 5 at 5:30 p.m.)
- Schedule a meeting with Mr. DeSantis in Student Services for
more information.
Credit by Demonstrated Mastery (CDM)
- Students may earn course credit without the requirement of seat
time.
- Includes an application, Phase I assessment and Phase II artifact
and/or performance assessment.
- Next application window opens March 2nd
- You are required to meet with your school counselor prior to
completing the application.
What is a Hybrid Schedule?
- Students will have the increased opportunity to take semester and
year-long classes.
- Why?
○ It supports acceleration, allowing more students access to advanced classes ○ It increases the number of options for students, such as completing internships, taking classes at local colleges and universities, and working during early release periods ○ Opportunities to earn credits mid-year and to graduate mid-year

Most classes will be offered as just semester or year-long.
- Will all Advanced Placement classes be offered as year-long?
The majority of our AP classes will be year-long. There will be a limited number of semester options.

- When will exams begin?
For semester classes, exams will be given at the end of the semester. Exams for year-long classes will be given at the end of the year.
- Can juniors have early release?
Juniors who are seeking dual enrollment at Durham Tech or a local college or university will have the opportunity to have early release.
