  1. Review and Analysis Bagasse/Biomass based Power Projects (Framework for Power Co-Generation 2013) By: By: AMJAD ALI AWAN Chief Executive Officer September 7 th , 2016

  2. Policy Framework 2013 (Salient Features)  LoIs to be issued on the basis of standard proposal (No Feasibility Study or Firm Cost in case of upfront tariff)  Project to be developed as part of existing sugar mill or as a separate entity.  Upfront tariff based on per unit energy delivered to the Grid.  Power Producers has been given the option to offer energy to the respective DISCOs at 11 kV or 132 kV, or to the CPPA at 132 kV.  The Cost of interconnection, grid station upgrades, etc. shall be incurred by the respective DISCOs.

  3. Policy Framework 2013 (Salient Features)  Mandatory Power Purchase and Evacuation.  Compensation for all un-evacuated energy through the concerned DISCO except Force Majeure events)  Financial and Fiscal incentives (As Available in Renewable Energy Policy of 2006).  Power generation units of sugar mills shall be considered a separate entity.  Applicability of framework to all bagasse / biomass based projects commissioned after January 2013.

  4. High Pressure Co-Generation (Overview) • 86 Sugar Mills are operational • Total crushing capacity of 50 M tons of sugar cane per year. • Bagasse Yield of over 15 million tons of assuming 32% fiber on cane. • Bagasse based power generation capacity between 1,500 to 2,000 MW depending on plant parameters. • Every mill has its own power plant (traditionally low pressure) to be replaced with high pressure Co Generation power plants. • Co-Generation projects of sugar mills contribute reasonable spill over during winter season. • 04 sugar mills have achieved commercial operation for 145.10 MW projects.

  5. High Pressure Co-Generation (Overview) In present scenario, a large number of sugar mills are approaching AEDB for issuance of LoI and expectedly 1000 MW of electricity will added in to the National Grid by 2018-19.
