Acceptance Criteria – Assumptions

Your Property

  • Is in a good state of repair and will be kept in good repair at all times
  • Is secure, with locks fitted to all external doors (additional security requirements may also apply)
  • Is less than 100 years old
  • Will not be left unoccupied for more than 60 days in a row
  • Is your main home, occupied solely by you and/or your family
  • Is not used in any way for business purposes (including any domestic outbuildings)
  • At least 75% of it consists of standard building materials such as brick, stone or concrete with a slate or tiled roof
  • Is not located in an area particularly prone to damage by storm, flood, subsidence , heave or landslip
  • Is not a Holiday Home or Rented property
  • Is not a listed building, period house or does not have a preservation order on it
  • Does not have ornate ceilings or plasterwork, antique fireplaces or any other unique features

Your Property’s Insurance History – we assume that:

  • No insurer has declined or stopped insurance on your property
  • No insurer has imposed any special terms or conditions on your property
  • Your property will be insured for an amount equal to the rebuilding cost

Your Insurance History - We assume that you and anyone else involved in this policy:

  • Have never had insurance declined or stopped, or had any special terms or conditions imposed
  • Have never been declared bankrupt or been convicted or charged with any offence of any nature or have any conviction or

prosecution pending

  • Have never had a flood, subsidence heave or landslip claim or loss
  • Have not made any water leakage claims or losses in the last 3 years

Buildings

Definition

Your home and its fixtures and fittings, interior decorations, swimming pools (but not outdoor spas and hot tubs), fuel septic and service tanks, terraces, patios, decks, paths, driveways, tennis courts, walls fences and gates for which you are legally responsible, all within the boundary of your home.

Tip: The building sum insured should represent the reinstatement cost not the market value. The rebuilding value is normally included in the valuation report on the property which is required for new mortgages or the client can refer to the guide to calculating the rebuilding cost provided by the Society of Chartered Surveyors of Ireland www.scsi.ie

Household goods, personal belongings and valuables, including personal money up to the limit shown in the schedule; within your home which you or any member of your household own or for which you are responsible. The most we will pay for Contents in your domestic

  • utbuildings is shown in your schedule.

Contents does not include:

  • documents or securities (stocks & shares) valued at

more than €400 in total;

  • medals or coins;
  • caravans, watercraft, motor vehicles (including ride-
  • n lawnmowers) or trailers or parts or accessories for

any of them;

  • any living creature or plants, trees or shrubs;

Help in a home emergency:

Help in a Home Emergency provides an emergency service to the household to prevent further loss or damage.

  • Customers can access a 24 Hour comprehensive emergency service
  • Covers include storm damage, water or oil leaks, loss of keys as well as broken glass in
  • utside windows or doors
  • Additional premium per policy is €25;

 Callout, labour and materials for the emergency repair  Up to €250 for each incident (€260 for broken glass)  If actual cost to repair exceeds €250, customer pays the difference or if a valid claim, Aviva cover the cost less policy excess

Common Endorsements

HW11 Accidental damage We will cover accidental damage caused by something external to the buildings, or to the contents while in your home, but not including the following. 1 Anything which happens gradually. 2 Chewing, scratching, tearing, or fouling, by pets. 3 When any part of the buildings is used by tenants or paying guests, or if there is business or professional use, in that part of the buildings which the public have access to. 4 For faulty workmanship or faulty design. 5 Electrical or mechanical breakdown. 6 Maintenance, or routine repair or decoration. 7 When your home is unoccupied for more than 60 days in a row. 8 Wear and tear, atmospheric or weather conditions, wet or dry rot, fungus, mildew, insects, vermin, denting, scratching, action of light, any process of cleaning, defrosting, dyeing or restoration. 9 Jewellery, watches, furs, contact lenses, hearing aids, mobile phones or computer equipment, which is designed to be portable while it is being transported, carried or moved. 10 Glass, china, porcelain, earthenware, stoneware, pictures, works of art, or

  • ther articles of a brittle nature while being handled or used.

11 Accidental or deliberate erasure, destruction, distortion or corruption of data or programs. 12 Loss or damage we specifically exclude or provide for under any other section of this policy. HW2B Security – intruder alarm We have given you a discount because you have an approved intruder alarm fitted in your private house or apartment. We will not cover loss or damage as a result of theft or attempted theft, unless the intruder alarm system: a meets EN50131 or IS199 standard; b is installed by an intruder alarm company approved by the NSAI (National Standards Authority of Ireland), EQA Ireland, Management Systems Certification Ltd., SSAIB or CerticCS; c the installer holds a PSA (Private Security Authority) licence and d the alarm is set and working when there is no person at home. In the event that the alarm system is not in operation during a theft or attempted theft, the excess applying to the policy is doubled for that claim.

Aviva are now offering Contents only policies for Landlords and Tenants

Phase 1 The National Personal Lines Team in Cork can now provide over the phone quotes for Landlords or Tenants looking for contents cover only. Phase 2 With the completion of phase 2 Aviva will automatically provide quotes on the Relay system for Landlords or Tenants seeking contents sum insured.
