Today’s Session… Meet and discuss with current and potential users and partners for sport and physical activity in the leisure centres.  Gain a better understand key facility requirements and needs – influence the future design brief and the study.  Your feedback and views welcomed – keen to ensure community users needs are identified.  3 key topics to cover in our breakout groups.

Why Are We Here?  17% - 1 in 6 deaths are caused by inactivity .  £7.4bn is the estimated figure that physical inactivity costs the national economy in healthcare, premature deaths and sickness absence.  £7.35 is the estimated return on investment for every £1 spent on sports for at-risk youth through, for example, reducing crime and anti- social behaviour.  The total direct impact of physical activity in Broxtowe is estimated at £28.3million .  Just over 1 in 5 of all people in Broxtowe (20.2%) are inactive .

Facilities to Consider  Swimming Pool – Main Pool, Learner Pool.  Health and Fitness Offer – gym, group exercise, studios.  Indoor space – sports hall, sport/activity specific, changing facilities, reception and entrance.  Café, breakout areas  Play Facilities. Also:  Car parking and access.  Access to and from the North/South of the borough

Discussion Topics for Groups  Topic 1 (20 minutes) –What sort of sport, leisure and health and wellbeing facilities do we want for Broxtowe – can they be met with the current facilities we have?  Topic 2 (20 minutes) –What future needs does your organisation have and how can these be met within any future facility mix?  Topic 3 (15minutes) What other wider services are needed for Broxtowe and should be considered for any future community leisure hub?

  21. Topic 1 Topic 1 (20 minutes) – What sort of sport and leisure facilities do we want for Broxtowe can they be met with the current facilities we have?  What works well at the centre? What facilities do we want to retain?  What don’t we have enough of? What should we be aiming for? What is missing from the sport and leisure offer?  Think about another venue that you know/have been to that we should aspire to.  Is the venue, site and are the facilities suitable?

  22. Topic 2 Topic 2 (20 minutes) – What future needs does your organisation have and how can these be met within any future facility mix?  What facilities do you use and how can they be improved?  How can we create a facility and venue that encourages people who are not active to be active and lead more active and healthy lives?  How can any future development complement other facilities and plans for Broxtowe and the surrounding areas?  How can we ensure a financially sustainable facility that will continue to provide high quality services for Broxtowe residents?

  23. Topic 3 Topic 3 (15minutes) What other wider services are needed for Broxtowe and should be considered for any future community leisure hub?  Health, Education and other potential co-location facilities and needs for Broxtowe residents?  Can we include complementary facilities and uses at any new facilities?
