Environmental Considerations

This early stage of design indicates potential impacts while later design stages will reveal more details. County must follow S tate and federal laws.

  • Forest Impacts –

yes and proj ect will mitigate to extent possible

  • Critical Area –

proj ect is partially within

  • S

treams – not expected as Meredith Creek west of Log Inn Road may flow under Route 50 through existing twin 24” x36” culverts

  • Wetlands –

yes, with minimal wetland and 25’ buffer impacts and no wetland mitigation is anticipated pending agency approvals

  • Maryland Historic Trust: no affected resources
  • US

FWS : No refuge lands or fish hatcheries in area

19

Forest and Tree Impacts – along roadway

Forest Impact - approximately 4.7 acres

  • No specimen trees of 30” DBH and greater
  • Scrub / shrub understory

Individual tree impacts are estimated at 28 total trees outside forest

20

Forest and Tree Impacts – Sandy Point

Within Sandy Point State Park: Tree impacts are estimated at 50 total trees

  • 12” DBH and smaller - no specimen trees of 30” DBH and greater
  • Trail will be field verified before construction to minimize tree impacts and to

meet DNR requirements

  • Use of existing paths wherever possible

Forest Impact Mitigation

Planting Mitigation along trail and roadway:

  • Approximately 2 acres of planting area may be available
  • Must maintain overhead and underground utility offsets,

intersection sight lines and clear zone offsets to roadway for safety.

S andy Point:

  • Approximately 50 trees will be planted at approved locations within

the park

  • Deer browse will be a problem
