PrOBlem?

In our group when we looked at the brief, our fjrst initial thought was that being distracted by technology and

  • ur in phones in particular, was the

biggest problem; particularly when it comes to revision. As the majority of our class agreed, it is impossible to revise or study without the distraction of your phone. You take a quick break from your studies to check Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

  • etc. and the next thing you know it’s

2 hours later, you’re on your friends, brothers, girlfriends, aunties Facebook and have no work done. So from this, we decided that an app would be the most suitable medium to address the problem.

Once we found that the problem is getting distracted by technology, phones in particular, we then thought about what genre of app to go down. After some discussion, we decided to go down the educatuonal route, specifjcally revision. The idea that we came up with is to create an app that will disable your phone, enabling you to concentrate on your studies.

  • Students,
  • Boys/girls
  • Aged - 16-25
  • Mainly GCSE/A Levels.

We want our app to be simple, motivational and lighthearted. !

After looking at exsisting apps and how they are designed we felt that the following features are most important; to be asthectically pleasing, ergonomic & informative. We also wanted to have a simple & clean colour-way, limiting

  • urselves to just 2-3 colours.

After researching the ideal time to study we decided on 30 minuets, as this is the reconmended study period. Research has shown that it is important to take regular breaks, so we have added an optional 10 minuet break after every half an hour study session.

With the nature of our app it is important for the person to feel motivated and confjdent. Here are a few different ‘tips’ and ‘praises’ to encourage whoever is using the app which then appears on some of the loading screens.

tiPs anD Praises

  • “Nice work!”
  • “Great Job!”
  • “Well Done!”
  • “Keep Going!”
  • “Stay hydrated!”
  • “Have a walk”
  • “Grab a snack”
  • “Drink water”

We wanted the name of the app to be specifjc to revision, and felt that ‘procrastination’ is too vague. We then narrowed it down to ‘Study Coach’ or ‘RE-vision’ as they aren’t too long and fmo nicely. We decided on the name ‘Study Coach’ as it is simple and we felt that it was the most informing of the purpose behind the app.
