Institute for Public Strategies The Environmental Prevention Model
The Environmental Prevention Model is a change process. Using a multi component policy-focused systems approach, it has the power to change the environmental factors or underlying conditions that foster substance abuse and/or other threats to public health and safety.
Strategies used to create sustainable change:
Using this systemic approach, we change community norms to build sustainable solutions.
We help communities to build capacity and leadership to apply this change process to other issues.
- Utilize data to identify contributing factors and possible solutions,
provide real-time project direction, evaluation.
- Engage local residents, key community partners and sectors to build
capacity and implement the change process
- Identify policy solutions that will change or address environmental
factors
- Develop strategic media advocacy to build community support for
change
- Secure resources for community supported enforcement where
applicable
