Revising: Clauses

 An independent clause is: A group of words that:

Has a subject,

Has a verb, and

Expresses a complete thought.

 A dependent clause is: A group of words that is missing:

A subject,

A verb,

Or a complete thought.

 Independent clauses can exist on their own as complete sentences.  Dependent clauses depend on other clauses to form a complete sentence.

Revising: Sentence Fixes

 Fixing Fragments

subject ( ) and we have a verb ( ), but we do not have a complete thought.

 Make the thought complete: “When Poe uses imagery, he

creates an eerie mood.”
