You can download it from wordpress.org

Because we are working in Linux it even easier here are the steps we shall be using:

  • First lets go to the public_html folder and remove all the files
  • Now run “wget http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz”
  • Let uncompress this file with “tar -pxzvf latest.tar.gz”
  • Now check out “http://redbrick.dcu.

ie/~username/wordpress”

How do we get it?

slide-5

There’s no point showing you these command without explaining them: wget “url” ← wget http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz Retrieves files using HTTP, HTTPS and FTP tar -variables “file” ← “tar -pxzvf latest.tar.gz“ This is used to compress and uncompress files (kind of like . zip) What are all those letters for?

  • p ← Preserve File Permissions
  • x ← Uncompress Archive
  • v ← Prints out what it is doing
  • z ← This the compression type
  • f

← Use the tar file name
