  16. WHA WHAT T WE’VE HEARD – BEACON’S MEE MEETINGS, TINGS, HEARING HEARINGS, S, AND AND CORR CORRESPON ESPONDE DENC NCE Existing Trail • The trail is a cherished part of Beacon’s history and character and it should remain. Maintenance of Trail • Concern over current level of trail maintenance.

  17. WHAT WE’VE HEARD – MAIN MAINTEN TENANCE ANCE OF OF TRA TRAIL IL • City is not proposing to remove the trail • Preparing a comprehensive plan for improved maintenance 17

  18. WHAT WE’VE HEARD – PAR ARKI KING NG Parking • Concern over losing parking spaces and narrowing lanes. Existing Condition: • 39 spaces (including 1 accessible space & emergency vehicle parking)

  19. WHAT WE’VE HEARD - PAR ARKI KING G Previous design : • 27 spaces incl. 1 accessible space & emergency parking • Loss of 12 spaces Potential New Parking Design Proposal Following 9/17/18 Meeting • 33 spaces incl. 2 accessible spaces, 1 emergency parking & 1 turn around space • Striping to be incorporated to address bike circulation • Loss of 6 spaces 19

  20. WHAT WE’VE HEARD - BEA BEACH CH ACC CCESS ESS SO SOLUT UTIO ION • Comment: Believe the landslide hazard has been overstated and no stabilization is required for the trail to remain. • Comment: Feel a trail solution is available that can be permitted that addresses the geologic hazards. • Comment: If a stair access is necessary, it should: • Be soft aesthetically, not concrete • Follow the bluff landform, not span above it

  42. Shoreline protective devises and their effects on beaches and coastal process. Coastal Commission Staff Report, August 2, 2108 “.” Coastal Act Section 30253, which covers new development and steps to avoid the need for future protection measures; and Section 30235, provides for the specific, limited situations in which shoreline protection must be permitted. 42

  44. ABOUT SOIL CEMENT “ARTIFICIAL SANDSTONE” • Used for slope protection in wide range of environments • Mixture of silty/clayey sand with small percentage Portland cement • Design strength to match Ardath Shale • Placed and compacted in thin layers Simulation of Soil Cement Shore Protection • Colors would mimic natural at Beacon’s Beach materials 44
