There will be no sharing of instruments or mouthpieces.
➢ Overlapping wind masks will be provided for all wind players to use just for band classes. ➢ “Instrument masks”, or bell covers will be provided for all wind players. ➢ Flutes will be masked using a device called the “Win-de-fender”.
➢ Six feet will be maintained between all players
➢ Walkways will also be equally wide and in one direction. ➢ Students will face one direction and will be seated in rows instead of arcs.
➢ There will be two large ensemble classes this year:
○ Brass Ensemble (Period 1): Instruments include trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba ○ Woodwind Ensemble (Period 4): Instruments include flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and saxophone.
➢ Brass Ensemble & Woodwind Ensemble will combine with Percussion Ensemble in a single, combined concert band. We will return to two concert bands as circumstances permit. ➢ Jazz Ensemble will take place during Period 2, as it has in years past.
➢ Percussion Ensemble will take place in the band room at 6’ intervals. ➢ All students will assemble and disassemble instruments from their seats. ➢ P5 Eurythmics (Color Guard) will meet in the Black Box to learn routines. ➢ P6 Keyboarding (Class Piano) will meet in Room 04-233.
➢ Students will use hand sanitizer at the entry door and wash hands often. ➢ Brass players will empty their water keys in dish rags or puppy pads. ➢ Students will clean instruments at home. ➢ Students will be asked to clean their wind masks and bell covers at home.
Students will perform no more than 30 minutes per class period to allow a minimum
3 exchanges per hour which is standard.
Students will be recorded often in class and videos will be shared with parents via Remind. Our Winter Concert will be virtual, with recordings taking place in November. We do anticipate having live performances in the spring!
➢ Football Games - YES (Home Games ONLY - Volunteer Pep Band) ➢ Football Performances to include:
○ Pregame ○ First Half ○ Halftime (the band will leave after halftime)
➢ NO REGULAR AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS*
○ *Rehearsals will be held on Fridays before home games to rehearse for that evening’s performance.

➢ I’m enrolled in Charlotte Virtual, but still want to be in a band class during the school day. What should I do?
○ Students who have elected to attend Charlotte Virtual School this year CAN take band during the school day. If you wish to exercise this option, you must do the following as soon as possible (before August 31, if possible): ■ Contact your LBHS guidance counselor to advise them that you would like to enroll in the CVS “flex” plan. ■ Make arrangements to attend the appropriate class for your instrument. Class options include:
