Masks: What’s New • Executive Order 20-39 Where a classroom or place of instruction can be configured so that all students can maintain at least three (3) feet of social distancing one another at all times, and where students are positioned to face in the same direction, face coverings or face shields do not need to be worn during in-person educational instruction by students. Instructors must wear a face covering or face shield unless the instructor(s) can maintain six (6) feet of social distancing from students; or

At the direction of the instructor, a student may be permitted to remove his or her mask on an intermittent and temporary basis.

Keys to going back to school safely • Had a positive case at a school • Cooperation and communication between parents, schools, local health departments, and ISDH is essential • Important to message when to stay home from school: – Any student or staff waiting for a test results – Close contacts must complete their quarantines – Symptomatic or not – Wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands

ISDH Updates • Setting up a school-specific hot line for school nurses and administrators, so watch for more information on that soon – This will be for school officials and nurses only. • Resources from ISDH – Check website frequently for updates, reorganized at the top of the Public Resources page – Share the information with schools – Continuing work on the toolkit and FAQs (combined into new third edition)

Immunization Requirements 2020-21 • Immunization requirements will remain in effect for the 2020-21 school year according to Indiana Code • In-person and online/virtual students will be held to the same expectations • The hep A vaccine is now required for all grades K-12. Otherwise, the requirements from 2019-20 still apply for this year.

2020-2021 Immunization Requirements When running reports in CHIRP the program defaults to the ACIP recommended vaccines for the “series” field, so it’s important to note that the series ranges have changed from the previous year. The series now includes: Pre-K, K-5, 6-11, and 12 th grade ranges. CHIRP has been updated to reflect these changes.

Immunization Requirements 2020-21 Students must fit into one of the following categories to remain in attendance at your school: • Meet the IZ requirements • Have a religious exemption on file at the school • Have a medical exemption on file at the school, signed by healthcare provider • Have a written statement from his/her healthcare provider stating the date the student has an appointment to receive the needed vaccine(s)

Immunization Requirements 2020-21 • Schools may grant a 20-day waiver – allows time to obtain requirements • If a student has an appointment scheduled, they may attend school and be listed as “in process” in reports • School nurses should tell parents to make sure provider enters immunizations into CHIRP once given so the school can see this on the CHIRP report • CHIRP reports should be run regularly to ensure students are up-to-date

CHIRP Reports • Reporting requirements can be found both on the ISDH webpage and by visiting https://chirp.in.gov – Once you are on the CHIRP home page, look for the DOCUMENT CENTER icon, by selecting this option, you will be directed to the ISDH Immunization’s webpage. – Choose “School Nurses” to find links to letter templates, exemption forms, and many other resources for school nurses

CHIRP Reports • There are three reports in CHIRP that will assist with ensuring students are up to date on their vaccines: 1. School Immunization Report – best to view school overall 2. Action Report - best to track those who are not compliant 3. Student Detail Report – best to view certain records/grade levels • How to run reports: Details can be found in the CHIRP document center

FERPA • The Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)prohibits schools from disclosing student information without consent. In order to enter or pull data from CHIRP, consent is required. • Parents MUST provide FERPA consent to have their child’s immunizations entered into CHIRP, or to be viewed by the school. (Consent is obtained by the school). • There is not a place to document this in CHIRP. More information can be found here: https://www.doe.in.gov/safety/health/children-and-hoosiers- immunization-registry-chirp • If parents refuse FERPA consent, the school should not view, edit, or update any student information. The student would be excluded from any reports altogether. Even if they have an exemption, they must have consent to enter this into CHIRP

LMS: Invest • LMS is the new Learning Management System launched by ISDH to centralize resources and to provide training for our partners. • The LMS is found on the CHIRP homepage under the “Dashboard” heading on the left side of the page. • From the dashboard choose this icon: • You will be directed to the LMS: Invest Homepage and can log-in using your CHIRP username and password • We are working to create a CHIRP “One stop shop” within the LMS which should be available soon. • Once this is live, you will be able to access all user guides and modules here

Notes from IDOE • Vision and hearing screening – There have been no changes to the requirements at this time, and the requirements would apply to all enrolled students – both in-person and virtual – As in past years, a waiver does exist for the MCT portion of the vision screening and can be found on the IDOE Health webpage – In light of COVID-19, schools may need to delay their vision and hearing screenings until later in the fall or spring semester

Clarifications and Reminders • Notification: Schools may notify the Indiana Centralized Contact Tracing Program (ICCTP) of close contact information by calling 1-833-670-0067 with support from LHDs • What is close contact – Sustained contact of 15 minutes close contact at one time – Those with face-to-face contact, especially during strenuous activity or frequent public exposure, are at higher risk – It’s not: • Talking or meeting with someone while socially distanced • Passing someone in the hallway (masks still required)
