Student Selection and Retention

¨ We are losing students from:

¤ Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Ethiopia, Burkina-Faso,

Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, DRC

¨ We have never accepted students from these either

very populous or research-heavy countries:

¤ South Sudan, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Reunion, Gabon,

Mali, Niger, RC, Togo, Eritrea, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania, CAR, Guinea, Chad, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique, Mauritius

Conclusions

¨ The top way to communicate is the ASP email list ¨ The top physics subject of interest is Nuclear,

followed by Theoretical, Partical, and Solid State

¤ Many of the Solid State people were interested in

Material Science; therefore, perhaps we can work some

• f this into our detector lectures

¨ I am very concerned about our unemployed alumni

¤ 10% of our respondents are unemployed!

¨ The only area where students did not strongly

agree/agree was using ASP to find current employment

¤ However, room for improvement here!
