Alex Peace Alex Peace-Gadsby Gadsby
Chief Commissioner – England
THANK YOU!!
What are young people faced with?
What does Scouting do?
Across divided communities… In a time of uncertainty… With less community engagement… In an age of increased competition… …greater social cohesion …happy, resilient citizens …more civic participation …improved social mobility
WE ARE THE PEOPLE PLE WHO O MAKE A DIFFERE ERENC NCE IN SOCIETY ETY
WE give young people the life skills to succeed.
- Character skills like resilience, initiative,
independence and tenacity
- Employability skills like leadership, teamwork and
problem solving
- Practical skills like coding, cooking and First Aid
I PROTECTED THE STATUS QUO
I MET ALL MY KPI’s & COMPLIED TO ALL POR STANDARDS
I KEPT MY HEAD DOWN & DIDN’T ASK ANY QUESTIONS
I SURVIVED COMPASS
I MADE OTHER PEOPLE LOOK GOOD
I WAS HERE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
So what can I do to help the young people in our community?
The word ‘growth’ drives me mad, why do we talk about it? Surely it’s quality not quantity?
2023 Total young person 5-18 target : 510,000
THIS ISN’T A NUMBERS GAME!!! !!! When we don’t focus on numbers, we could experience what we did in the 90’s
PROGRAMME, PROGRAMME, PROGRAMME
DELIVERING PROGRAMME IS ULTIMATELY ALL THAT WE DO… PROGRAMME Each young person must take part in, and be inspired by, great programme experiences (evening meetings, camps, activities, events) NEW PLACES TO JOIN Provide and maintain sufficient Colonies, Packs, Troops, Units and Networks to meet local need
Everything we do must support this
Why do youngpeople join and stay in Scouting for the long-term?

that influence whyyoung people join Scouting and STAY for the long-term
