It also seeks to help cultural organisations adapt to the need to engage in new and innovative ways with audiences both to retain them, to build new audiences, diversify audiences including reaching current "non- audiences", and to improve the experience for both existing and future audiences and deepen the relationship with them.

Latest developments in Quality Assurance

Launch of MusiQuE – European External Evaluation Body for Quality Enhancement in Music

slide-93
SLIDE 93
  • An independent European-level subject-specific

external evaluation body

  • Its aim:
  • To assist institutions in quality enhancement
  • To improve quality of higher music education as a

whole

  • MusiQuE takes over and develops AEC review

responsibility (29 reviews since 2008)

  • Various services with one philosophy

What is MusiQuE – Music Quality Enhancement?

slide-94
SLIDE 94
  • Continuation of:
  • Institutional and programme reviews
  • Joint procedures with national agencies
  • New services:
  • Reviews of joint programmes
  • Accreditation procedures
  • Quality Assurance Desk
  • All procedures have the same principle:
  • Self-study
  • Visit of peer-review team
  • Report of the peer-review team

The MusiQuE Procedures

slide-95
SLIDE 95
  • Independence is needed for making
  • bjective assessments
  • It is an important principle of the European

Standards & Guidelines for QA agencies (ESG)

  • We don’t want the collegial and inclusive

nature of AEC to be compromised

Why is it important for MusiQuE to be independent?

slide-96
SLIDE 96
  • MusiQuE board: 5 members appointed by

AEC (3), EMU and Pearle* (I each)

  • Supporting staff (normally seconded from

AEC Office)

  • Peer-reviewers register

The MusiQuE board is responsible for

  • verseeing all MusiQuE activities

The structure of MusiQuE

slide-97
SLIDE 97
  • Institutions can use MusiQuE services and benefit from:
  • Advice from international specialists
  • The use of internationally accepted standards
  • An emphasis on improvement
  • Helping to establish an international reputation
  • A comparable approach that will build trust
  • MusiQuE’s flexible structure with diverse services
  • Guidance with targeted advice and professional development
  • Staff and students will benefit from the QA Desk
  • National QA and accreditation agencies

Who can use MusiQuE and what are the benefits?

slide-98
SLIDE 98
  • MusiQuE as the ‘go-to’ provider for review

and accreditation in music

  • Completion of EQAR registration – necessary in
  • rder to do formally-recognised accreditation

procedures

  • Extending MusiQuE standards to pre-college

training and music teacher training

  • Potentially also supporting procedures in

multi-disciplinary institutions with various performing arts disciplines

MusiQuE’s future development
