Go 5 was launched

  • To ensure that the program became

embedded within schools – SFT identified that delivery should be through our team of positive role models who were employed within the schools

  • Our School based Sports Apprentices
  • The team were trained and then delivered the

programme throughout 10 schools involving

  • ver 300 young people.

Findings

  • We gathered pre and post delivery

questionnaires but these were not robust enough to provide validity

  • The programs were successful, the children

enjoyed them and learnt from them BUT we now need to prove their worth.

  • We also wanted to engage parents within the

delivery and this is our next step.

Autumn Term 2013

  • 3 pilot schools have been identified for initial

delivery of parental GO 5 – parents will be invited to attend an after school session in which their youngsters show them what they have learnt i.e. fruit kebabs.

  • Longmeadow, Ashtree, Moss bury.
  • Our Advanced Apprentices will be delivering

to 6 schools within Stevenage

GO 5 The next Steps

  • The programme has great potential if

supported from a financial aspect

  • SFT have an infrastructure through which the

programme can be delivered and it can be sustainable

  • The robust gathering of evidence is the

priority and an identified individual would need to be employed to enable this to happen

Key Points

  • We want to develop a programme that becomes

embedded within our schools

  • We have been successful so far but resources

prevent further investment beyond the planned delivery

  • We have the foundations for a program that can be

developed to target the issue of childhood obesity In addition the benefits are

1. Raising Aspiration of young people through positive role models 2. Increased opportunities for young people to be active 3. Increased opportunities for young people to raise awareness of Healthy Lifestyles through parental involvement in their learning
