Independent economic regulator of the water and sewerage sectors in England and Wales We have defined duties and responsibilities set out in legislation. Our main statutory duties are:

• to protect consumers
• enable efficient, well-run companies to finance their functions
• ensure long-term resilience

We work within the framework of published Government policy, including any specific social and environmental guidance to us We regulate licensed water and sewerage companies, including 11 regional monopoly companies, 6 local water only monopoly companies, a number of new appointees and growing number of retail licensees Who are Ofwat?
