  • Erasmus+ funded and led by

Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh

  • Based on Moving Languages –

app for immigrants to learn main EU languages

  • This project develops the app

and tests it on six regional languages – Saami, Scots, Scots Gaelic, Basque, Galician and Cornish

Key achievements:

  • Formally became a CIO in December 2019
  • New website published in January 2020 with

constitution, minutes of Board meetings, etc.

  • Most governance papers agreed – remainder to be

approved in July and all then published on AK website

  • Will then re-look at whether the Panels meet present

needs, and review membership to ensure cross- section of skills

  • New online dictionary published in June 2019 and

files brought up to date

  • Includes New Terms from the work of Terminology

1. Completion of governance 2. Corpus search - examples of use / data mining texts 3. Framework for developing the corpus search, balancing priority texts with availability in required format 4. Soundfiles in dictionary 5. Framework for developing a ‘corpus of recordings’ 6. IndyLan app terminology – useful cross-section of everyday (and not-so-everyday) terms to add to the dictionary, and aiming to use recording of 4,000 words as start of dictionary soundfiles (subject to consistent formatting) 7. Comms, including technical presentations using new subject areas researched by the Terminology Planel

NB – infrastructure either is, or will soon be, in place. Focus will switch to language content and Making the system work well – for public and volunteers.

Go Cornish work programme

  • Clusters – Penzance, Liskeard – and Bodmin was due to run in

Spring 2020

  • Work programme will have to be adjusted depending on when

lockdown ends, but GT already looking at developing curriculum for pilot schools to embed more deeply into key schools

  • Future of business sponsor – First Kernow - loss of income
  • New intensive course for beginners (2 x 3 hour sessions) – for

complete beginners and those who need to build confidence in

  • speaking. Content complete – ready for events after lockdown.
  • Magi Ann 2 - for pre-school children – Cornish content complete –

to be published after lockdown

  • Online ‘dyski’ resources for WJEC – 6 x sessions – for secondary

schools, or community educators

  • Plus clips of Cornish in use in basic situations for adult learners

WJEC and Kesva exams

Almost 90 students passed Kesva exams in 2019 – entries were growing 2020 exams postponed – will it affect numbers?

  • WJEC - developed Level 1 assessment and entered 6 students in

Spring 2019 – plus 26 Entry Level students

  • WJEC means accreditation, but concerns at demands of the system

need to be discussed with Kesva in 2020

  • WJEC confirmed support for Cornish assessments in Oct 19 and

clean bill of health to us as an exam centre (subject to improving paperwork)

  • WJEC introduced online enrolment – but still not provided to

Cornwall

  • No entries in Spring 2020 due to lockdown – and Golden Tree were

preparing to enter first batch of secondary school students

  • Need to develop Level 2 for 2021
