The Current ICP Landscape

5

Recent Wins

Substantial improvement in 2017 data quality 2017 cycle results computation underway 2020 preparations underway Increased country buy-in for the 3-year cycle permanent program Increase in domestic funding Increase in uses

Outstanding Challenges

Timeliness of data submissions Quality, transparency and timeliness of results Poverty uses – Atkinson Report Connecting with policymakers Securing sustainable funding for the permanent program

Quality

Input data quality – enhanced quality assessment methods by the Inter-Agency Coordination Group Regional results quality – region-specific approval process Replicability and transparency of global results – parallel computations and documentation by the Computation Task Team Quality of the global results – assessment of the overall economic soundness of the results by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG)

ICP 2017: TAG Quality Assessment

9

The TAG at its 4th meeting in October 2019:

Welcomed the data quality improvements and additional quality assurance efforts being carried out Found no clear systematic (upward or downward) drifts between preliminary ICP 2017 PPPs and extrapolated ICP 2011 PPPs, as had been the case in ICP 2011 relative to ICP 2005, and in ICP 2005 relative to ICP 1996 Concluded that the quality of the results had improved since the 3rd TAG meeting and converged sufficiently to proceed with the computation of final results

ICP 2017: Risks and Mitigation (2)

10

Comparability

Changes in regional country composition PPP estimation methodology remains mostly unchanged; few changes driven by input data availability

Publication

Analytical categories to be produced/published Enhanced metadata and footnotes

Timeliness

Extremely tight timetable for finalization and publication
