  1. 2017 WEST END COMMISSION'S PRESENTATION TO THE CITY COUNCIL 1. INTRODUCTION: Rosie Mackey, Chair 2. COMMISSIONERS: Fr. Greg Adolph Pam Anderson Michelle Cotton Rosie Mackey Julia McCaa Eric Peterson Danielle Sheppard PURPOSE: The Commission was established as the Downtown Neighborhood Commission on October 24, 1996 by Resolution 6843. The purpose of the Commission is to advise City Council on the establishment of Plans, Policies, and Strategies relating to the Revitalization and Enhancement of the properties on the west side of Sierra Vista. On February 28, 2008, the commission was reestablished as the West End Commission. CURRENT: 1. Support the Southwest Sierra Vista Residents Association and the Carmichael Neighborhood Association with their neighborhood clean-up and effort to pull the neighborhood together 2. Adopted Forrest Doerner and Jim Landwehr Parks 3. Work with the Chamber to continue Business Walks. 4. Invite West End Businesses to WEC meetings. . EDUCATION

  2. 5. Coordinated with Cultural Diversity Commission to set up the first Christmas Around the World in the Landmark Plaza. (27 countries represented) 6. In collaboration with the other commissions we continued a second year of the All Commission Meet and Greet. 7. Elks Lodge Volks March in conjunction with October Fest 8. West End Fair 9. The Commission agreed in a vote to embrace and support the North Garden Avenue Project and the Fry Boulevard Corridor Concept. FUTURE: 1. Improve the Gateway to the West End A. Complete the Welcome to Sierra Vista Sign and add Way-Finding Signs. B. Clean Up the area to the Entry (Continue Funding Abatement of abandoned derelict properties) C. Connect pathways (i.e. Forrest Doerner Pathway to Landwehr Park) 2. Continue maintaining the West End Parks * Especially the Future Site of the New Visitor Center/Museum (Landwahr Park) ADA Compliance 3. Fund Public Art Name the West End the Entertainment, Cultural and Arts District A. More Restaurants and Music in the area between BST and Fab Ave than any other same size area of the city. B. 3 Mini Art Galleries
