Science Math Research Technology History Writing Reading Critical thinking
Science: Student prepared research projects on the form, structure, and processes of viral infection. Math: Statistics and probability in mathematics was utilized to analyze data from real world infections. Technology: Technology design cycle was utilized to build statistical maps, databases, and models to track an infection in real time. Research: Students contact the CDC Head Quarters in Atlanta to learn about how physicians track and work to prevent viral epidemics.

History: Class simultaneously researched and studied historical plagues and infections in various historical and geographic milieus. Writing and Critical thinking: Composition and critical thinking skills were then employed to prepare technological presentations such as weblogs, wikis, web pages, and podcasts to share the students’ historical research and analyses. Reading: Additionally, the students were engaged in reading and analyzing various non-fiction and literary texts on the history of viruses, such as Richard Preston’s The Hot Zone and Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death.
